You Get Pen

Kou Hoa & Renten

Original songs and music videos inspired by friends, beloved animals, personal stories, and unexpected moments. Each piece begins with a person, a memory, a chart, a conversation, or simply an idea worth turning into music. Some are heartfelt. Some are playful. Some are a little strange. All are made with affection.

Why “You Get Pen?”

The name comes from Rap Reiplinger’s classic Hawaiʻi comedy sketch Room Service, including the unforgettable exchange: “Eh, Russell! You get pen?” "Pen! Pen! Gunfunit, pen!"

For me, the line also carries a personal memory. My father often said “gunfunit,” a local Pidgin version of the old expression “confound it.” I grew up hearing it long before I understood where it came from.

So You Get Pen? is a small tribute to Hawaiʻi humor, language, memory, and the voices we carry with us.

About You Get Pen

You Get Pen is a small creative project by Kou Hoa & Renten, where personal stories, friendships, beloved animals, astrology, memories, and unexpected ideas become songs and music videos.

There isn’t one fixed style. Some pieces are tender, some playful, some reflective, and some slightly ridiculous. The common thread is simple: each one begins with something or someone worth noticing.
